Similarly, inference of the bulk modulus from Young’s modulus and shear modulus depends on isotropy. Foams generally deviate to a lesser or greater extent from isotropy. It is not obvious how much deviation from isotropy is tolerable for such inference. Even when anisotropy of foam is explored, the full set of elastic constants which would be needed for such judgment, is not captured. Therefore it is preferable to directly measure the bulk modulus.
